Amundsen’s Underneath the Surface is a masterclass in the Hazy IPA style, delivering a profound sensory experience centered on hop saturation. The trio of Citra, Idaho 7, and Azacca creates an intense aromatic profile of ripe mango, crushed pineapple, and bright tangerine. Its appearance is characteristically opaque with a luminous golden hue and a persistent white head. On the palate, the beer offers a soft, pillowy texture that carries lush stone fruit and citrus flavors over a delicate, bready malt base. Bitterness is purposefully restrained, enhancing the juicy character and leading to a smooth, fruit-forward finish with gentle alcohol warmth.

Appearance. Deep gold to light amber (5-7 SRM). Opaque with a consistent, heavy haze and a healthy shine. Features a tall, rocky, meringue-like white head with high retention and thick lacing.

Aroma. High intensity hop aroma featuring prominent notes of mango, pineapple, and citrus zest. Secondary notes of apricot and a subtle resinous undertone. Malt is low and bready, serving only as a neutral canvas. Clean fermentation with supportive fruity esters.

Taste. Initial impression is a burst of tropical fruit juice. High hop flavors of peach, tangerine, and passionfruit dominate. Malt flavor is low to medium-low, resembling fresh bread or flour. Perceived bitterness is medium-low and very soft, providing just enough balance against the fruit. The finish is off-dry, smooth, and clean with no harsh hop bite.

Mouthfeel. Medium-full body with a soft, creamy, and plush texture. Medium carbonation. A light, well-integrated alcohol warmth is present. Entirely smooth with no perceived astringency or starchiness.
