On the palate, it delivers a decadent, viscous sweetness reminiscent of blackstrap molasses and dark fruit compote, balanced by a firm roasted bitterness. The 13% alcohol content provides a comforting, well-integrated warmth that carries notes of charred wood and dark toffee through a long, velvety finish. Appearance. Jet black and completely opaque. Pours with a thick, dark tan head that shows moderate retention, leaving dense lacing. High viscosity is evident through slow-moving legs on the glass.
Aroma. High intensity aroma featuring heavy roasted grains, dark chocolate, and espresso. Significant barrel influence provides notes of vanilla, toasted coconut, and sweet bourbon. Esters of dried figs and raisins complement a subtle black licorice and charred oak background.
Taste. Initial impression of intense, sweet malt richness. Flavors of dark cocoa, burnt caramel, and dark fruit dominate, supported by a strong roasted grain backbone. The mid-palate reveals bourbon-soaked oak and vanilla. Bitterness is firm but serves to balance the high residual sugar. The finish is long and warming with lingering notes of dark chocolate and wood tannin.
Mouthfeel. Very full-bodied with a luscious, chewy, and velvety texture. Carbonation is low, enhancing the creamy mouthfeel. A smooth, noticeable alcohol warmth is present but well-integrated, lacking any sharp or solventy edges.
