Amiata Crocus is a vibrant Spice, Herb, or Vegetable Beer built upon a robust Belgian-style abbey base. The infusion of Maremma saffron imparts a unique, exotic earthiness and leathery spice that beautifully complements the fruity esters produced by the S-33 yeast. This brilliant yellow ale features a clean malt backbone derived from 100% barley malt, balanced by the subtle herbal and floral notes of Mittelfrüh hops. A measured addition of Magnum hops provides a clean, supporting bitterness that allows the complex, hay-like aromatics of the Crocus sativus to take center stage, finishing with a graceful, warming complexity.
Appearance. Brilliant yellow to deep gold (SRM 4–6). Crystal clear with a dense, persistent white head that leaves fine lacing on the glass.
Aroma. High intensity aromatics of earthy saffron, dried hay, and a hint of leather. Supported by moderate fruity esters of pear and apricot. Low herbal and floral hop character from Mittelfrüh. Malt presents as light honey and cracker-like notes.
Taste. Initial honey-like sweetness transitions into the distinctive, spicy, and slightly metallic flavor of pure saffron. Moderate esters of stone fruit blend with floral hop flavors. Bitterness is mild, provided by Magnum, balancing the malt without lingering. The finish is off-dry and complex with a lingering earthy-spice aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium body with a smooth, slightly creamy texture. High carbonation provides a lively, scrubbing effervescence. A gentle, well-integrated alcohol warmth is present. No harsh astringency.
