This Double IPA presents a vibrant sensory experience led by a complex hop blend. Classic Mittelfrüh and Nugget provide a foundational structure, while whirlpool additions of Simcoe and a dual dry-hop of Cascade and Ekuanot unleash an aromatic jungle of resinous pine, bright citrus, and tropical fruit. The grain bill, featuring Pilsner, Caravienne, and Melanoidin malts, creates a robust, orange-hued backdrop with subtle toasted notes that balance the firm 65 IBU bitterness. Despite its potency, the beer remains approachable, finishing with a lingering herbal complexity and a clean, warming presence that underscores its assertive character.
Appearance. Deep gold to light orange-copper (8–12 SRM). Shows a slight opalescence and light haze from dry-hopping. Topped by a persistent, off-white, creamy head with good lacing.
Aroma. High intensity hop aroma featuring a complex layer of herbal, piney, and citrus notes from Cascade and Simcoe, alongside tropical fruit hints from Ekuanot. A supportive, grainy, and slightly bready malt character from the Pilsner and Melanoidin malts persists in the background. Low fruity esters.
Taste. Initial impression is an assertive hop-forward punch of resin, grapefruit, and stone fruit. Moderate-high bitterness is firm but not harsh, balanced by a medium-full malt body showing light caramel and toasted bread notes from Caravienne. The finish is medium-dry with a long, lingering herbal and citrus aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium-full body with a smooth, slightly viscous texture. Moderate carbonation. A soft, clean alcohol warmth is present but well-integrated, with no significant astringency despite the high hop load.
