This American Stout pours pitch black, crowned by a dense, cappuccino-colored head. The aroma is a sophisticated blend of heavy roast—reminiscent of dark chocolate and espresso—accented by a notable floral and citrus bouquet resulting from dry-hopping with Nugget, Centennial, and Cascade. On the palate, a clever interplay between malt sweetness and the sharp, roasted bite of unmalted roasted barley creates a complex profile. Notes of English liquorice and bittersweet cocoa dominate, supported by a firm bitterness. The finish is crisp yet lingering, showcasing the resinous and floral character of the American hops against a deep, toasted grain backdrop.

Appearance. Jet black (SRM 40) and completely opaque. Features a thick, persistent, creamy light brown head with excellent retention and lacing.

Aroma. High intensity roast with prominent dark chocolate, coffee, and toasted grain. The dry-hop character provides a distinct floral, citrus, and slightly resinous aroma. Low fruity esters; clean fermentation profile with no sharp acidity.

Taste. Bold initial impression of roasted grain and bittersweet chocolate. The mid-palate reveals English liquorice and a touch of caramel sweetness. Firm hop bitterness balances the malt depth. Hop flavors are floral and citrusy, mirroring the aroma. The finish is medium-dry with a lingering roasted barley character and a clean, resinous aftertaste.

Mouthfeel. Medium-full body with a noticeably creamy, smooth texture. Moderate to high carbonation. Light, well-integrated alcohol warmth. Very low roast-derived astringency.

Más info: Tal vez ya lo sienta, cuando se quita la tapa y pone la nariz en la botella, esta “Stout” huele diferente a lo que está acostumbrado. Hemos secado esta stout en las últimas etapas de fermentación utilizando las variedades nobles americanas Nugget, Centennial y Cascade, que permiten los tonos florales que la hacen una Stout característica: los sabores de la malta tostada le dan ligereza y frescura.
El vaso parece Sundby Stout negro, mientras que la espuma es apretada, de color marrón claro y casi cremosa como un capuchino, la lengua percibe tanto la dulzura de la malta, como toques de chocolate amargo y regaliz inglés. Sin embargo, la dulzura equilibra hábilmente la malta tostada dura y la cebada partida, umaltada y tostada, que ayudan a dar a la cerveza su sabor tostado. Sundby Stout es un clásico “Stout” que, sin embargo, se atreve a ser diferente y desafía las convenciones.
