Amager Bryghus Samurai is a bold Double IPA that bridges modern haze with an exotic hop profile. Driven by an intense dry-hopping of Sabro, Simcoe, and Sorachi Ace, the sensory journey begins with punchy aromas of toasted coconut and bright lemon zest, underpinned by earthy pine. On the palate, the hop complexity deepens into layers of tropical pineapple and distinctive cedar notes, balanced by a soft, pillowy malt backbone. Despite its 9% ABV, the finish remains remarkably clean with a firm bitterness that cuts through the juicy texture. This Imperial Hazy IPA showcases a unique fusion of creamy tropical fruit and herbal Japanese-inspired spice.
Appearance. Light orange-copper color (8-10 SRM) with a heavy, opaque haze. Features a thick, persistent, off-white head with excellent lacing.
Aroma. High intensity hop aroma. Prominent notes of toasted coconut and tropical fruit from Sabro are layered with the sharp pine and citrus of Simcoe, while Sorachi Ace adds a distinct herbal lemon-peel and dill-like spice. Clean, grainy malt provides a subtle background, accompanied by low fruity esters and a hint of smooth alcohol.
Taste. Strong hop flavors mirror the aroma, featuring pineapple, lime, and resinous pine. The Sorachi Ace provides a unique woody and herbal mid-palate. Bitterness is firm and moderately high but lacks harshness, balanced by a soft, bready malt character. The finish is medium-dry and clean with a lingering resinous and citrusy aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium-full body with a smooth, almost creamy texture. Carbonation is moderate. Noticeable alcohol warmth is present but well-integrated and smooth, without any solvent-like harshness or astringency.
