This collaboration Doppelbock presents a refined take on the classic German strong lager, balancing a potent 8% ABV with a surprisingly lean and dry profile. It avoids heavy roasting, instead showcasing a rich tapestry of Munich malt character defined by notes of toasted crust and soft caramel. The palate is intentionally lighter in body than typical examples, offering a clean, attenuated finish that highlights the precision of the lager fermentation. Subtle suggestions of dark fruit and a gentle, integrated warmth provide depth, ensuring the malt remains the focal point while maintaining high drinkability for such a strong, celebratory beer.
Appearance. Copper to deep amber (12–16 SRM) with excellent clarity. Crowned by a dense, creamy, off-white head with persistent retention and fine lacing.
Aroma. High intensity of malt-driven aromas, featuring deeply toasted bread, biscuit, and light Maillard products. Nuances of plum and dried grape are present but restrained. Clean fermentation profile with no significant hop aroma and a subtle, well-integrated alcoholic sweetness.
Taste. Initial rich malt impression dominated by bready and toasty flavors. Hop bitterness is moderate-low, providing just enough structure to balance the malt without becoming a focal point. The mid-palate reveals light caramel and dark fruit esters. Finishes noticeably drier than standard versions, leaving a clean aftertaste of toasted grain.
Mouthfeel. Medium-light to medium body, offering a smoother and more nimble texture than traditional heavy versions. Moderate carbonation with a soft, velvet-like creaminess. A pleasant, glowing alcohol warmth is present but lacks any harshness.
