This big Foreign Export Stout pours with an imposing presence, immediately releasing a rich bouquet of dark roasted malts, dark chocolate, and distinct liquorice. Reflecting its robust strength, the aroma balances deep cocoa notes with a subtle vinous warmth. On the palate, it delivers an intense wave of bittersweet baker’s chocolate, anise, and lightly burnt espresso beans, backed by a firm, supportive hop bitterness. The mouthfeel is remarkably thick and full-bodied, coating the palate with a luxurious creaminess that leads into a moderately dry, warming finish. It is a decadent, deeply complex interpretation of the style.

Appearance. Opaque jet black (SRM 40+) with a large, dense, persistent dark tan head that leaves thick lacing on the glass.

Aroma. High intensity aroma dominated by roasted malt character, featuring dark chocolate, espresso, and prominent sweet liquorice. Low herbal and earthy hop aroma. Subtle dark fruit esters reminiscent of dried plums and raisins, alongside a clean, well-integrated alcohol warmth.

Taste. Initial impression is intensely rich and roasty, immediately delivering flavors of dark unsweetened chocolate, strong black coffee, and black liquorice. Medium-high bitterness from both roasted grains and herbal hops provides balance. Esters of dark cherry and fig add complexity. Finishes moderately dry with a lingering roasted grain character and a touch of bittersweet cocoa.

Mouthfeel. Full-bodied and thick with a smooth, velvety, and creamy texture. Carbonation is moderate. A noticeable, smooth alcohol warmth coats the throat without being hot or solventy. Extremely low astringency despite the heavy roast.
