Alpha Delta Brewing's Artemis is a luxurious Imperial Stout that delivers an intense, decadent sensory experience. Rich aromas of charred oak, warm bourbon whiskey, and sweet honeycomb rise from the glass, underpinned by deep roast and vanilla. The palate starts with a smooth, velvety sweetness from the honeycomb, followed quickly by rich dark chocolate and espresso notes. This massive profile gives way to a warming finish where the whiskey barrel character shines, evoking a cozy sense of comfort. It is a complex, wild, and beautifully structured barrel-aged stout that balances intense sweetness with deep roast.
Appearance. Opaque, jet black (SRM 40+). Pours with a dense, persistent, deep-tan to dark brown head that leaves thick lacing on the glass. High viscosity is apparent in the slow, heavy legs when swirled.
Aroma. High intensity aroma dominated by rich espresso, dark chocolate, and roasted barley. Strongly accented by the whiskey barrel aging, showing notes of charred oak, smooth bourbon, and distinct spicy alcohol. Sweet, floral honeycomb aromas blend seamlessly with warm, sweet vanilla beans. Low dark fruit esters resembling prunes and raisins are present, while hop aroma is virtually absent.
Taste. The initial impression is incredibly rich and sweet, driven by honeycomb and smooth vanilla. This is quickly balanced by deep, roasted malt flavors of dark chocolate, cocoa, and black coffee. The whiskey barrel aging contributes oak tannins and a warming bourbon flavor. Bitterness is medium-high, balancing the intense sweetness without becoming harsh. The finish is lingering and bittersweet, combining roasted grains, honey, and a smooth, comforting whiskey warmth.
Mouthfeel. Full to very full-bodied with a luxurious, velvety, and chewy texture. Carbonation is low to moderate, enhancing the beer's creamy weight. A significant, smooth, and pleasant alcohol warmth is present, reflecting its high gravity and whiskey-barrel aging, without any harsh or hot edges.
