This American Amber Ale presents a sophisticated twist on the style, leaning into the spicy complexities of Rye Malt. The sensory profile is defined by a distinctive hop blend of Pilgrim and Bramling Cross, which contributes layers of blackcurrant, cedar, and dried spice. These notes harmonize with a robust, caramel-forward malt base, resulting in a profile that balances earthy depth with a subtle, dark-fruit sweetness. At 5% ABV, it maintains an approachable drinkability while offering a rich, coppery appearance. The finish is crisp but evocative, where the rye’s peppery bite meets the lingering, berry-like character of the hops.
Appearance. Deep copper to amber with reddish highlights; generally clear with a moderately large, creamy off-white head that shows good retention and light lacing.
Aroma. Moderate intensity; the aroma is led by bready, caramel-rich malt notes and a distinct peppery spiciness from the Rye Malt. The hop character is earthy and fruity, featuring notes of blackcurrant, cedar, and light honey. Fermentation esters are low, allowing the herbal and spicy hop notes to integrate with the sweet malt.
Taste. Initial impression of toasted bread and caramel sweetness, quickly joined by the sharp, spicy bite of rye. Hop flavor is moderate, showcasing dark berry fruitiness alongside woody and spicy notes. Bitterness is moderate, providing a clean counterpoint to the malt. The finish is medium-dry with a lingering earthy-spice and berry aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium body with a slightly creamy texture attributed to the rye adjunct. Carbonation is moderate to high, providing a lively prickle. Alcohol warmth is absent. Smooth and clean finish without astringency.
