Essence is a vibrant American IPA that showcases a sophisticated hop profile. An intense bouquet of fresh-cut pineapple and tropical stone fruit arises from the combination of BRU-1 and El Dorado BBC hops. These lush notes are sharpened by the bright, zesty citrus of Citra and a subtle, resinous spice provided by Topaz. The sensory experience is anchored by a clean, grainy malt backbone that allows the multi-layered hop character to dominate. It pours with a persistent white head and offers a firm, clean bitterness that leads to a dry, refreshing finish, epitomizing the modern balance of the style.
Appearance. Deep gold to pale amber (6-9 SRM). Brilliant clarity with a dense, persistent white head that leaves significant lacing on the glass.
Aroma. High intensity hop aroma featuring prominent notes of pineapple, mango, and candied orange peel. A secondary layer of pine resin and light spice is present. Low, clean, bready malt sweetness provides a neutral foundation. Fermentation is clean with no significant esters.
Taste. Assertive hop flavors of tropical fruit and citrus zest dominate the initial impression. A medium-high bitterness provides a crisp, structural edge without being harsh. The malt flavor is low, suggesting toasted crackers or pale bread. It finishes very dry with a lingering pithy grapefruit and resinous aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium body with a smooth, soft texture. Carbonation is medium-high, providing a lively effervescence. A very subtle, well-integrated alcohol warmth is perceptible on the swallow.
