Autumnal is a bright American IPA that presents an expressive hop profile driven by HBC 586, Zappa, and El Dorado. The nose is greeted by a high intensity of tropical mango and lychee from HBC 586, layered over the sweet pear and watermelon notes of El Dorado. Zappa introduces a distinctive complexity, offering hints of spice and dark berries that differentiate the finish. Beneath the hops, a lean, grainy malt base provides a clean canvas. Despite its sessionable strength, it maintains a firm bitterness and a dry, crisp finish, delivering a refreshing yet decidedly hop-forward sensory experience.
Appearance. Medium gold (6 SRM) with a medium-sized, white, persistent head that leaves fine lacing. Clarity is clear with a very slight, brilliant haze.
Aroma. High intensity hop aroma featuring prominent mango, guava, and tropical fruit from HBC 586, alongside pear and candy-like stone fruit from El Dorado. Zappa adds a unique spicy and berry-like character. Low, clean, crackery maltiness supports the hops with a neutral fermentation profile.
Taste. Initial hop-forward impression of tropical fruit and citrus. Medium-high hop bitterness is clean and assertive. Flavors of watermelon and stone fruit from El Dorado are balanced by a spicy, slightly savory edge from Zappa. Malt flavor is low and grainy. The finish is dry and medium-dry with a lingering, hoppy aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium-light body with a smooth, crisp texture. Carbonation is medium-high, enhancing the refreshing quality. No alcohol warmth is perceived, and there is no hop harshness or astringency.
