A collaborative tour de force between AleBrowar and Gallia, Hazy Rooster is a New England Double IPA that masterfully balances high-intensity hopping with remarkable drinkability. The aroma is saturated with tropical fruit and citrus driven by Citra BBC and Mosaic BBC, while the unique addition of HBC 472 introduces intriguing whispers of coconut and subtle wood-like complexity. Despite its 8.9% ABV, the beer remains smooth and pillowy on the palate. Magnum and Chinook provide a firm, clean bitterness that slices through the soft malt base, culminating in a dry, resinous finish that highlights the multifaceted hop profile of this modern strong ale.
Appearance. Deep gold to light orange-copper with a dense, opaque haze. Supports a moderate-sized, persistent, creamy white head that leaves thick lacing throughout the glass.
Aroma. High-intensity hop aroma featuring dominant notes of mango, passion fruit, and grapefruit from Citra BBC and Mosaic BBC. Distinctive secondary notes of coconut and cedar from HBC 472 are present. The malt character is low, clean, and grainy, while the fermentation profile is neutral with a very subtle, smooth alcohol presence.
Taste. Initial impression is a burst of tropical fruit punch, tangerine, and blueberry. Hop flavors are prominent and complex, supported by a low, soft malt character that offers a hint of breadiness. Bitterness is firm and resolute, provided by Magnum and Chinook, but remains clean and devoid of harshness. The finish is dry to medium-dry with a lingering hoppy and slightly resinous aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium-full body with a smooth, velvety texture. Carbonation is moderate. A noticeable but well-restrained alcohol warmth provides a pleasant glow without being solventy or hot. No perceptible hop-derived astringency.
