This sophisticated Grape Ale presents a harmonious fusion of a crisp ale base and the elegant profile of Riesling must sourced from the Winninger Göttchesberg. Aromatic layers of white peach, green apple, and subtle floral blossoms from the grape blend seamlessly with a light, bready Pilsner malt foundation. The fermentation character is clean yet expressive, showcasing delicate spicy esters and a faint mineral edge. On the palate, a vibrant effervescence carries flavors of apricot and citrus, reminiscent of a fine sparkling wine. It concludes with an exceedingly dry, crisp finish, supported by a gentle, refreshing acidity and a sophisticated, lingering fruit presence.
Appearance. A brilliant, pale golden straw color (SRM 5) with excellent clarity. It features a fine-beaded, white head with moderate retention that leaves light, wispy lacing on the glass.
Aroma. Moderate to high intensity with a distinctive vinous character. Primary notes of white peach, honeysuckle, and tart green apple from the Riesling must lead the profile. The malt character is low, offering a supportive crackery and bready aroma. Hop aroma is very low and herbal. Yeast esters are delicate and spicy, contributing to a clean and elegant bouquet.
Taste. The initial impression is bright and vinous with stone fruit and citrus flavors dominating the mid-palate. Low Pilsner malt flavors provide a neutral, cereal-like backdrop. Bitterness is low, around 15-20 IBU, serving only to balance the fruit's natural acidity. The fermentation is clean with a touch of spicy phenolic complexity and no off-flavors. The finish is remarkably dry and crisp with a light, wine-like tartness that enhances drinkability.
Mouthfeel. Medium-light body with high, sparkling carbonation that provides a prickly and refreshing sensation. A noticeable but well-integrated alcohol warmth is present, consistent with its 7.3% ABV. Very low astringency and a clean, palate-cleansing mouthfeel.
