Ale-Mania Honey Ale
This Alternative Sugar Beer artfully blends the brewery’s signature Bonner Wiess base with regional wildflower honey from beekeeper W. Scherer. The result is a vibrant spring ale that captures the essence of a blooming meadow. Delicate bready malt notes provide a canvas for the honey’s distinctive floral perfume and light nectar-like sweetness. While the honey is fully integrated, its presence is unmistakable against the clean, crisp backdrop of the unfiltered golden ale. Light esters of pear and apple mingle with a gentle hop presence, finishing remarkably dry and refreshing for a beer highlighting a fermentable sugar.
Appearance. Straw to pale gold in color (3–5 SRM). Characteristically hazy for a Wiess style, topped with a dense, white, creamy head that shows moderate lacing and fair retention.
Aroma. Moderate intensity featuring a grainy-sweet malt profile reminiscent of fresh crackers. The honey addition provides a clear floral, wildflower, and light wax-like bouquet that harmonizes with subtle pear-like fermentation esters and a very low herbal hop note.
Taste. A gentle initial impression of sweet grain followed by a distinct honey-floral character. The honey is well-integrated, providing flavor without excessive residual sugar. Bitterness is low, serving only to balance the malt. The finish is clean and crisp with a lingering hint of floral nectar and soft pome fruit.
Mouthfeel. Medium-light body with a smooth, slightly rounded texture from the honey. Carbonation is moderate to high, lending a refreshing, prickly quality. Alcohol warmth is negligible at 5% ABV.
