Ale Mania Cascadian is a bold Black IPA that masterfully bridges the gap between deep, roasted malts and vibrant American hop character. Inspired by the Pacific Northwest, this brew features a sophisticated hop profile of Columbus, Simcoe, Citra, and Amarillo, delivering a complex bouquet of resinous pine, zesty grapefruit, and lush tropical fruit. The dark malt base provides a smooth, chocolatey foundation without overwhelming the palate with acrid bitterness. At 7.2% ABV, it offers a warming presence that complements its firm bitterness and dry finish, resulting in a balanced, assertive experience that honors the Cascadian tradition.
Appearance. Dark brown to opaque black (35 SRM); persistent, light tan head with fine-textured lacing and good retention.
Aroma. High intensity hop aroma featuring grapefruit, passionfruit, and resinous pine from the Citra and Simcoe. Supporting malt notes of dark chocolate, toasted bread, and a hint of coffee; fermentation is clean with no significant esters.
Taste. Initial impression is hop-forward with citrus and tropical fruit flavors. Mid-palate introduces restrained roasted malt flavors of cocoa and light coffee that do not become ashy. Bitterness is firm and assertive (approx. 65 IBU) but smooth. The finish is dry with a lingering resinous and slightly toasted aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium body with a smooth, almost creamy texture; moderate carbonation. A light, pleasant alcohol warmth is present, and there is no malt-derived astringency.
