ABYSS Brewing’s Ikon presents a vibrant, refreshing take on a New Zealand Pilsner, emphasizing a sharp sensory profile driven by specialty hops from the South Island. Specifically, Nelson Sauvin hops lend a distinctive white wine, gooseberry, and crushed grape character, while Motueka hops contribute bright lime zest and tropical citrus notes. This crisp light lager balances these expressive aromatics against a clean, bready malt foundation. Though sessionable at 4.4% ABV, it maintains a smooth, medium-light body that ensures high drinkability. The result is a hop-forward experience that marries the precision of a lager with the punchy fruitiness of New World ingredients.
Appearance. Yellow-gold (3-4 SRM) with brilliant clarity and a persistent, creamy white head that leaves fine lacing on the glass.
Aroma. High intensity hop aromatics featuring gooseberry, white currant, and distinct lime zest. Notes of honeydew melon and a light grassiness are supported by a clean, crackery, and bready malt character. Clean fermentation profile with no yeast esters.
Taste. A hop-forward initial impression of tropical fruit and citrus lime. The bitterness is moderate and clean, never harsh, balancing a grainy-sweet and bready malt backbone. The finish is dry and crisp with a lingering aftertaste of white wine-like fruitiness and light grass.
