Hop Island is a vibrant American IPA that showcases a potent Southern Hemisphere influence. A massive dry-hop addition of Nelson, Nectaron, and Riwaka, bolstered by Mosaic, creates an intense aromatic profile. The sensory experience is dominated by lush tropical fruit and the signature Sauvignon Blanc grape notes characteristic of New Zealand varietals. Supporting the hop intensity is a clean, pale malt backbone that provides a crisp foundation. The palate transition leads from juicy stone fruit to a complex, resinous depth, culminating in a signature dank and diesel finish. It is a bold, modern interpretation of the style with a refreshing, dryish conclusion.
Appearance. Medium gold color (approximately 7 SRM) with a slight haze from intense hopping. It features a medium-sized, persistent white head with fine lacing.
Aroma. Intense hop-forward aroma featuring tropical fruit, passion fruit, and distinct Sauvignon Blanc grapes. High notes of pink grapefruit and crushed lime are supported by a signature dank, diesel character. Low, clean grainy maltiness remains in the background with a clean fermentation profile.
Taste. High hop flavor echoes the aroma with punchy tropical fruit, white wine, and stone fruit. Bitterness is medium-high and firm, providing a clean, hoppy balance. Low, grainy-sweet malt provides a neutral base. The finish is dry and crisp with a lingering resinous and slightly diesel-like aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium-light body with a smooth, crisp texture. Medium-high carbonation provides a refreshing bite. A very light, well-integrated alcohol warmth is present without any harshness or astringency.
