This Double IPA presents an intense sensory voyage powered by a triple-dry hopped regimen of Mosaic, Citra, Nugget, Columbus, and Idaho 7. The nose is a complex tapestry of tropical mango and berry from the Mosaic, bolstered by the sharp citrus of Citra. Earthy, resinous notes of Columbus and Nugget provide a dank foundation, while Idaho 7 contributes stone fruit and pine. On the palate, a firm bitterness is balanced by a lean, neutral malt backbone that allows the hop oils to shine. A warming 8.6% ABV finish remains crisp and dry, inviting another sip of this formidable yet surprisingly approachable giant.
Appearance. Gold to light copper (8 SRM) with a slight haze from the intense dry-hopping. Features a moderate-sized, persistent off-white head with dense lacing.
Aroma. High intensity hop aroma featuring prominent notes of tropical fruit, blueberry, and citrus zest. Secondary layers of damp pine, resin, and herbal earthiness are present. Malt is low and neutral, providing a faint cracker-like background without interfering with the hop bouquet.
Taste. Initial punch of tropical and citrus hop flavors. Moderately high bitterness is firm but clean, lacking harshness. Mid-palate reveals stone fruit and pine resin supported by a low, soft grainy malt character. Finishes dry to medium-dry with a lingering, resinous, and fruity aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium body with a smooth, slightly oily texture from hop resins. Carbonation is moderate-high. A well-integrated, gentle alcohol warmth is present, reflecting the strength without being solventy or hot.
