While it presents a gentle hint of roast malt character rather than aggressive acridity, the style’s signature firm bitterness and light citrusy hop notes remain present to provide structure. The result is a clean, flavorful stout that emphasizes the interplay between rich caramel sweetness from the crystal malts and the toasted, nutty nuances of the brown malt.
Appearance. Jet black and opaque in the glass (SRM 38); supports a large, persistent light tan head with excellent lacing.
Aroma. Moderate intensity featuring dark chocolate and roasted coffee beans. Subdued citrusy hop notes and low esters complement a rich malt base of toasted bread and caramel.
