Abbeydale Brewery

This American Stout offers a decadent sensory journey inspired by the classic dessert. The profile is defined by an enticing combination of ripe, juicy cherries and the nutty, almond-like essence of frangipane, underpinned by a moderate roasted malt foundation of dark chocolate. On the palate, the roast bitterness is softened by creamy vanilla and a moderate malt sweetness, creating a dessert-like profile that remains true to the stout’s dark-grained heritage. The finish is smooth and balanced, blending the tartness of fruit with the warmth of roasted coffee notes, resulting in an exceedingly well-structured and indulgent specialty ale.

Appearance. Jet black (40 SRM) and opaque. Features a large, persistent light tan head with fine lacing that clings to the glass as it recedes.

Aroma. Moderate to high intensity. Strong scent of dark chocolate and roasted coffee beans, layered with prominent notes of sweet cherry and a distinct nutty frangipane character. A subtle, creamy vanilla undertone is present, with very low citrusy hop character in the background.

Taste. Initial impression of bittersweet chocolate and roasted malt, quickly followed by succulent cherry fruitiness. The mid-palate reveals almond-rich frangipane and smooth vanilla sweetness. Bitterness is moderate, providing a necessary counterpoint to the dessert flavors. The finish is medium-sweet with a lingering dark-fruit and cocoa aftertaste.

Mouthfeel. Medium-full body with a noticeably creamy, velvety texture. Carbonation is moderate. Alcohol warmth is light and well-integrated, with no significant roast-derived astringency.
