Abbaye des Rocs Triple Impériale

Belgian Strong Ale 10 º 30 IBU
This imposing Belgian Dark Strong Ale presents a masterclass in complexity, utilizing seven distinct malts to forge a deep, regal character. The sensory experience is dominated by rich layers of dark fruit—reminiscent of raisins, plums, and figs—interwoven with decadent notes of caramel and apricot syrup. Hints of toasted nuts and spicy phenols emerge alongside a bold sugar-syrup sweetness, reflecting its high-gravity heritage. Despite its 10% ABV and powerful presence, the finish remains remarkably dry and elegant, leaving a lingering trail of warm alcohol and earthy nuttiness. It is a sophisticated, full-spectrum ale built for slow contemplation.
Appearance. Deep coppery-brown with a noticeable haze due to being unfiltered (SRM 18-22). It is topped by a huge, dense, and persistent light tan moussy head that leaves intricate lacing.
Aroma. High intensity with a complex bouquet of rich, bready-toasty malt and dark caramel. Prominent dark fruit esters of prune, dried cherry, and fig are complemented by a distinctive nutty and syrupy sweetness. Subtle spicy phenols and a soft, perfumy alcohol presence round out the nose.
Taste. The initial impression is of rich, sweet malt and dark caramel, quickly evolving into layers of apricot syrup, mixed berries, and toasted nuts. Bitterness is low to moderate, serving only to balance the malt richness. The fermentation character is estery and slightly spicy, leading into a surprisingly dry finish with a lingering nutty aftertaste and a clear, warming alcohol presence.
Mouthfeel. Medium body with a smooth, creamy texture. Carbonation is high but not sharp. A significant and pleasant alcohol warmth is present, consistent with its 10% strength, without being harsh or solventy.
