903 Brewers’ Barrel Aged Chupacabra is an indulgent sensory journey, defined by its intensive stay in Iron Root Republic whiskey barrels. The beer pours an impenetrable black, releasing a complex bouquet of toasted coconut and warm cinnamon. On the palate, the base American Stout provides a robust foundation of dark chocolate and roasted coffee, which is softened by the velvety sweetness of marshmallow. Layers of nutmeg and spiced rum oak emerge in the mid-palate, intertwining with the spirited warmth of the whiskey. The experience concludes with a lingering, decadent finish of spiced vanilla and rich, charred oak, underpinned by a subtle, resinous hop backbone.
Appearance. Jet black (40+ SRM). Dense, persistent tan to deep brown head with excellent lacing. Completely opaque.
Aroma. High intensity. Dominating roasted malt notes of dark chocolate and espresso. Significant barrel influence featuring whiskey, vanilla, and charred oak. Pronounced adjunct aromas of sweet marshmallow, toasted coconut, and a spicy blend of cinnamon and nutmeg. Low resinous hop aroma.
Taste. Initial impression is sweet and rich. Deeply roasted malt flavors of bittersweet chocolate and roasted coffee beans are balanced by marshmallow creaminess and toasted coconut. The Iron Root Republic barrel aging introduces spiced rum oak and whiskey character. Moderate bitterness and low citrusy hop flavors are present but largely offset by the high residual sweetness.
