This New Zealand Pilsner showcases the experimental NZH-111 hop, diverging from typical tropical profiles toward a refined European elegance. It pours a brilliant gold with a persistent creamy white head. The sensory profile is defined by delicate aromatics of earthy spice and soft citrus, supported by a clean, bready Pilsner malt base. On the palate, a smooth, firm bitterness integrates with notes of lemon zest and herbal spice, characteristic of the unique Bract Project hop selection. Medium-light in body with a soft mouthfeel, it concludes with a crisp, dry finish that emphasizes its clean fermentation and sophisticated hop character.
Appearance. Straw to yellow-gold in color (3–4 SRM). Brilliant clarity with a creamy, long-lasting white head and fine lacing.
Aroma. Moderate to high hop intensity, featuring distinctive notes of spice, earthiness, and subtle citrus from the NZH-111 hop variety. Low bready and crackery malt character provides support. Clean fermentation with no esters.
Taste. Initial impression of clean hop bitterness followed by flavors of herbal spice, earth, and lemon zest. The malt profile is grainy-sweet and bready. Balanced toward bitterness with a dry, smooth finish and a lingering, clean aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium-light body with medium-high carbonation. Prominent smoothness on the palate with no astringency and very low alcohol warmth.

In our quest to continually expand our sensory and taste profiles with our breeding program looking for those ‘hops with a difference’, NZH-111 has taken us down another unique flavour profile that is not often prevalent in our NZ varieties. See if you can pick it. More of a traditional heavy set Bine structure makes this quite a robust variety but does have a tight harvest window meaning when she’s ready, she’s ready.

It is more delicate, almost European in presentation with subtle hints of spice, citrus and earthiness. It is very nice in its own right and an exciting candidate to broaden the spectrum and usages of locally grown hops. Nice firm bitterness too, making it very suitable for the pilsner we decided to brew with it.
