5e Baron Lions Gate
Lions Gate is a classic expression of the American IPA style, leaning heavily into its West Coast identity. The sensory profile is defined by an assertive hop presence, bursting with resinous pine and sharp grapefruit citrus. A restrained, grainy malt foundation allows these hop flavors to dominate, leading to a crisp and decidedly dry finish. At 7% ABV, there is a smooth, integrated warmth that bolsters the medium body without adding cloying sweetness. Brilliant clarity and a persistent white head frame this refreshing yet intensely bitter experience, delivering a clean, lingering hop character that resonates long after the final sip.
Appearance. Deep gold to light amber with brilliant clarity. Supports a medium-sized, off-white head with excellent persistence and thick lacing.
Aroma. High intensity hop aroma featuring prominent notes of pine resin, grapefruit zest, and a hint of floral spice. Low grainy, crackery maltiness provides a clean background with no significant esters.
Taste. Bold hop flavors of resin and citrus pith dominate the palate. Low bready malt sweetness is quickly overtaken by a medium-high to high bitterness. The finish is very dry and clean, leaving a lingering, crisp hop character in the aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium-light to medium body with a smooth, non-astringent texture. Medium-high carbonation provides a prickly, refreshing sensation, accompanied by a light, well-integrated alcohol warmth.
