5e Baron’s Blhaze is an assertive Double IPA that centers on a bold interplay of resinous and ripe tropical notes. The influence of Columbus hops is front and center, delivering an intense pungency reminiscent of cannabis and pine. This resinous depth is softened by lush layers of apricot and passion fruit, creating a complex, exotic profile. At 8% ABV, the beer presents a creamy, slightly round texture that balances its significant hop weight. The finish is remarkably persistent, leaving a lingering trail of fruit esters and tacky hop oils that define this modern, punchy take on the style.
Appearance. Gold to light orange-copper (7-9 SRM) with a slight haze characteristic of modern interpretations. Topped by a moderate-sized, persistent, off-white head with excellent lacing.
Aroma. Intense hop aroma dominated by pungent resin, dank cannabis-like notes, and very ripe tropical fruits. Distinctive scents of apricot and passion fruit provide a sweet, exotic contrast to the sharp piney character. Malt is neutral and clean, acting as a quiet foundation for the hop aromatics.
Taste. The initial flavor is a powerful wave of Columbus hop resin and pine. This transitions into mid-palate notes of apricot and passion fruit. Bitterness is high but well-integrated, lacking harshness. The malt character is soft and supportive with a light, grainy sweetness. The finish is slightly round and medium-dry with a long, lingering resinous and fruity aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium-full body with a notable creaminess and smooth texture. Carbonation is moderate. A gentle, well-restrained alcohol warmth is present at 8%, adding to the rounded sensation without hop-derived astringency.
