50&50 PETIT BLANC
This 2023 harvest beer elevates the German Pils framework into an 'Imperial' expression, showcasing fresh Petit Blanc hops harvested by the Locher family in Tettnang. The sensory profile is defined by a vibrant interplay of delicate white grape, elderflower, and a distinctively 'green' resinous snap characteristic of fresh hop cones. Supporting this aromatic intensity is a solid foundation of grainy-sweet malt, reminiscent of toasted crackers. Though stronger at 6% ABV, it maintains a crisp, bitter-forward balance that yields to a clean, dry finish. The Petit Blanc variety imparts a sophisticated vinous character that differentiates this from traditional herbal examples.
Appearance. Straw to deep yellow in color with brilliant clarity; features a thick, creamy, long-lasting white head with excellent lacing.
Aroma. Moderate-high hop intensity featuring white currants, floral notes, and a hint of lemongrass, complemented by a fresh, grassy 'green' quality from the whole cones. Low grainy-sweet malt aroma with a touch of doughy cracker. Very clean fermentation profile.
Taste. Initial cracker-like malt sweetness is rapidly superseded by a firm hop bitterness. Flavors of white grape and spicy floral notes from the Petit Blanc hops dominate the mid-palate. Finishes bone-dry and crisp with a lingering, clean bitterness and a faint, pleasant minerality.
Mouthfeel. Medium body with high carbonation that provides a refreshing, prickly sensation. A light, well-integrated alcohol warmth is present, though the finish remains sharp and refreshing.
