This Jolene Saison captures a rustic Belgian spirit, characterized by a complex interplay of fruity esters and a distinct farmhouse funk derived from the addition of Brettanomyces during packaging. It pours with a vibrant effervescence, leading with aromas of ripe stone fruit, citrus, and a peppery spice that intermingles with earthy, leathery notes. The palate is defined by high attenuation and a bone-dry finish, showcasing grainy malt nuances and a firm, continental hop bitterness. This 6.5% ale balances traditional spicy yeast character with a wild, evolving complexity, delivering a refreshing yet deeply layered experience that epitomizes the Road to Belgium intent.
Appearance. Deep gold to pale orange with a slight, persistent haze. Features a thick, rocky, ivory head with exceptional retention and intricate Belgian lacing. Highly effervescent.
Aroma. High intensity. Dominant aromas of lemon zest, apricot, and cracked black pepper are layered over a rustic, earthy funk reminiscent of hay and leather. Lightly grainy malt sweetness provides a subtle background to the spicy hop character.
Taste. Sharp initial impression of citrus and pome fruit, followed by a mid-palate of spicy phenol and moderate hop bitterness. The Brettanomyces adds a drying, earthy complexity. Finishes remarkably dry and clean with a lingering peppery and floral aftertaste.
