This Double Cold IPA, a collaboration between 3bir and Zichovec, presents a brilliantly clean and hop-forward profile that bridges the gap between a crisp lager and a potent American IPA. An intense aromatic burst of tropical fruit, bright citrus, and resinous pine leads the sensory experience, supported by an exceptionally lean, grainy malt backbone. On the palate, the high attenuation results in a bone-dry finish that amplifies the firm bitterness and vibrant hop flavors of grapefruit and melon. At 7.7% ABV, it offers a smooth, subtle warmth while maintaining the refreshing, snappy drinkability characteristic of the cold fermentation style.
Appearance. Medium gold color (approximately 6 SRM) with brilliant clarity. Features a medium-sized, white head with excellent persistence and intricate lacing.
Aroma. High intensity hop aroma dominated by citrus zest, tropical mango, and fresh resinous pine. The malt character is low and clean, displaying a grainy, crackery quality. Fermentation is exceptionally clean with no noticeable yeast esters.
Taste. Initial impression is a sharp, clean hop punch with flavors of grapefruit and passion fruit. Medium-high to high bitterness is prominent but lacks harshness. The malt flavor is low and grainy, providing a minimalist stage for the hop profile. The finish is very dry and crisp with a lingering, bitter, and hoppy aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium-light body with a smooth, crisp texture. Carbonation is medium-high, lending a lively feel. A very light, smooth alcohol warmth is present but well-integrated.
