This festive American Porter balances aggressive hopping with deep, roasted complexity. Deeply influenced by English chocolate malt, the profile leads with intense cocoa and roasted coffee notes, complemented by the subtle, dark-sugar richness of Mexican sugar. 3 Floyds’ signature use of American hops introduces a resinous, citrusy, and slightly herbal aromatic layer that stands up to the malt’s weight. The experience is robust and seasonally warming, offering a firm bitterness that cuts through the chocolatey sweetness. This results in a complex, lingering finish that beautifully reflects its kinship with Alpha King while maintaining a distinctive dark malt identity.

Appearance. Very dark brown to nearly black (35-40 SRM) with garnet highlights at the edges. Features a thick, creamy, tan-colored head with excellent retention and significant lacing. Opaque.

Aroma. High intensity; prominent dark chocolate and espresso from the English chocolate malt. Resiny, piney, and citrusy hop character is bold, characteristic of American hops. Subtle background notes of dark caramel and molasses from the Mexican sugar, with clean fermentation and very low fruity esters.

Taste. Strong roasted malt flavor featuring bittersweet chocolate and toasted grains. Assertive hop bitterness provides a firm backbone against the malt.
