Het Visioen is a decadently rich Imperial Stout that leans into its milk stout identity with a luxurious, velvety texture. The 10.6% ABV provides a sophisticated alcohol warmth that melds seamlessly with an intense profile of bittersweet chocolate, espresso, and black licorice. The addition of lactose introduces a creamy sweetness that balances the aggressive roasted grain character, while deep esters of plum and black currant emerge in the mid-palate. This is a complex, slow-sipping beer where the interplay of charred malt bitterness and smooth residual sugars creates a harmonious, dessert-like experience with a long, warming finish.

Appearance. Jet black and completely opaque (40+ SRM). It pours with a thick, dense, deep tan head that shows moderate retention and leaves significant lacing on the glass. High viscosity is apparent in the visible legs that form when the glass is swirled.

Aroma. High intensity with a rich blend of dark chocolate, roasted coffee beans, and slight burnt grain. A distinct sweet creaminess from lactose is present, alongside moderate fruity esters reminiscent of raisins and prunes. Very low earthy hop notes are secondary to the malt and smooth alcohol presence.

Taste. Initial impression is a massive wave of dark cocoa and toasted malt sweetness. The middle reveals layers of espresso, black currants, and a creamy mouth-coating character from the lactose. Bitterness is moderate to firm but is significantly softened by the residual sugar. The finish is long and bittersweet, featuring lingering notes of roasted grain and a clean, integrated alcohol warmth.

Mouthfeel. Very full-bodied and chewy with a luscious, velvety creaminess. Carbonation is low to moderate, enhancing the beer's weight without being sharp. A noticeable but smooth alcohol warmth provides a comforting glow without any harsh solvent character.
