Dix ans plus tard, les premières exportations débutèrent. A l'heure actuelle, la Duvel représente 85% de la production de Moortgat et elle se porte pour le mieux. Vers 1918, Albert Moortgat décida de fabriquer une bière selon le modèle britannique. La première bière fut appelée Victory-Ale mais un des amis du brasseur trouva que la bière était un "diable de bière". On la nomma donc "Duvel" qui est une variante du mot diable en flamand (duivel). En outre, d'autres brasseurs ont voulu créer des bières de ce genre. Ils ont également utilisé des noms en rapport avec ce thème. On connait bien la Judas, la Satan, etc... Elle se sert dans un verre en forme de calice ce qui laisse un col de mousse assez important. La Duvel possède 8,5° de volume d'alcool et doit se servir à une température de 6-10° tout en gardant plus ou moins 1 cm de bière dans la bouteille. La Duvel est une bière énormément réputée. Selon certains, elle pourrait constituer à elle seule un style de bière. Il s'agit d'une bière de haute fermentation, refermentée en bouteille, forte, d'un doré étincelant et au goût moelleux.
