To Øl Dangerously Close To Stupid

The next beer in the To Øl hop adventure is now a reality – we present to you Dangerously Close To Stupid. An Imperial IPA at 9,3 % ABV with a close to stupid amount of Citra and Centennial Hops in it. It is a bright crisp and super dry-hopped IIPA with a smooth and balanced body.

To make a tight transition between the hop profile and the body we have removed all caramel malts and focused only on basis malts. This is resulting in a nice fresh Spring/Summer IIPA that has a Dangerously Close To Stupid drinkability.
We have for a long time been wanting to do a pendant to the Final Frontier Double IPA, that has this rich caramel body and we think we nailed it Dangerously Close to Perfect with this one.
Cheers, enjoy and be aware!

Words from our label designer Kasper Ledet:

“The idea is to do a design that is as close to stupid graphically. A picture of roses (What? There is a lot of hops in the beer..) half-destroyed by data faults and yet the picture refers to previous beers that are more beautiful in a classic way. It is almost an undermining of these previous labels! Around the neck is the same picture as on the front, but stretched abnormally much in the height (a classic death sin in graphical design) and in a bad quality black and white version. The back label is of course in comic sans – no explanation needed here.”

Barley Wine - Oak Matured

El aroma de esta cerveza artesana se caracteriza por unas notas de malta, lúpulo y roble muy afrutadas. Un sabor intenso y delicioso.

Mikkeller Astley’s Northern Hop Lager

The whole project started with a rumour that Rick Astley lived in Amager, Copenhagen.

“When I heard the news, I immediately thought we should brew a beer with him,” explains the brewer and founder of Mikkeller, Mikkel Borg Bjergsø, who as a pre-teen had posters of Rick Astley hanging on his wall in his childhood home in Nivå and hits such as ’Never Gonna Give You Up’ and ’Whenever You Need Somebody’ on repeat in the walkman.

“I was a huge fan!,” he says.

Bjergsø later found out that Rick Astley lived in London and that he – despite being married to a Dane – actually never lived in Amager. However, through the singer’s Danish wife, who is also Astley’s manager, Mikkeller got in contact with Astley, who said yes to a Skype meeting with Bjergsø and the offer to brew a beer with Mikkeller.

“I consider myself to be close everything Danish. I like the tradition of quality in products and design. I really like Mikkel and his team, and think what they do is interesting, fun and great quality,” says Astley about the collaboration.

And so Bjergsø and Astley traveled together to the Belgian brewery De Proef Brouwerij to brew a beer together. The result is a red lager with a touch of ginger – a reference to Astley’s red hair. Astley himself chose the name ’Astley’s Northern Hop’.
