Artistraw Cider Ailey 2021

Description Thick ancient hedges surround towering old trees in this small orchard on the edge of the Sturts nature reserve in the hamlet of Ailey. A stone’s throw from the orchard that originally inspired us to create Artistraw, the reserve is famed for its kettle hole ponds which were created by glacial retreats 22,000 years ago and its abundance of waxcap fungi (28 species have been recorded!) making it a haven for numerous birds and beasts which also find themselves at home in both neighbouring orchards.

Made from a single variety of perry pears that have thus far evaded identification this perry has notes of rich ripe stewed apricot on the nose and a lemony acidity, tempered with a distinct herbaceousness in the mouth. We think this pairs well with buttery globe artichokes or white fish dishes.
