"Kuchlbauer" owns one of the oldest brewing rights in the world. It was back in 1300 that the brewery’s original home in Abensberg was given the brewing privilege by the Count of Abensberg. In 1751 Josef Amann, "Kuchlpaur" by trade, that is to say supplier of groceries to the Bishopric of Regensburg, acquired the property in Abensberg along with the brown beer and wheat beer privileges. This is where the company name "Zum Kuchlbauer" comes from.
