Explicit Emphasis is a decadent Sweet Stout that puts a modern, dessert-forward spin on the classic style. A robust foundation of dark and roasted malts provides depth, while a generous addition of lactose and salted caramel creates an indulgent sensory experience. The aroma is heavy with notes of milk chocolate and toffee, underpinned by a faint salt-induced savory edge. On the palate, the sweetness is front and center, reminiscent of sweetened espresso and creamy caramel. This beer finishes with a lingering, velvety richness, balancing the mild roasted bitterness with a thick, satisfying body that highlights its luxurious ingredients.
Appearance. Deep ebony to black in color (SRM 38), appearing opaque in the glass. It is topped by a dense, long-lasting, creamy tan head that leaves significant lacing.
Aroma. Moderate-high intensity featuring dominant notes of milk chocolate and sweet cream. Distinctive salted caramel aromas provide a rich, burnt sugar character, complemented by subtle roasted coffee and low dark fruit esters.
Taste. Initial impression of rich, sugary sweetness. Flavors of cocoa and lightly roasted grain are layered with a prominent salted caramel profile that adds both sweetness and a hint of salinity. Moderate bitterness provides just enough balance against the high residual sweetness of the lactose. The finish is long and sweet, echoing notes of chocolate fudge.
