Appearance. Jet black and opaque (SRM 40+). Crowning the beer is a large, persistent, light tan head with excellent lacing.
Aroma. High intensity roasted aroma with dominant notes of dark chocolate and roasted coffee beans. Low citrusy hop character and subtle dark fruit esters are present. No acrid or sharp acidic notes.
Taste. Intense coffee entry followed by bittersweet chocolate and toasted grain. Medium-high bitterness (55 IBU) is balanced by a low malt sweetness and caramel notes. Hop flavor is moderate and resinous. The finish is medium-dry with a lingering aftertaste of black licorice and roasted malt.
