Beyond the Pines presents a masterful exploration of the Citra hop, showcasing the variety’s dual nature within a classic Hazy IPA framework. This expression leans into the juicy moniker with vibrant bursts of tangerine and grapefruit, yet remains grounded by the distinctive resinous pine notes that define its name. The aromatic profile is intense and saturated, supported by a soft, pillowy malt base that provides a neutral canvas for the hop oils to shine. Its finish is remarkably smooth, trading aggressive bitterness for a lingering tropical fruit sweetness and a clean, resinous snap that invites the next sip.

Appearance. Straw to golden orange (SRM 4-5) with a significant, opaque haze providing a healthy glow. The head is thick, white, and rocky, showing excellent meringue-like retention and dense lacing.

Aroma. High intensity hop-forward bouquet dominated by Citra’s signature tropical fruit and citrus—specifically lime and mango—blended with a distinct, fresh evergreen pine. The malt presence is low and clean, offering a light bready or grainy foundation, while fruity esters from the fermentation provide a supportive stone fruit backdrop.

Taste. A high-impact display of fruity hop flavors featuring layers of grapefruit pith and juicy tangerine. The Citra hop provides a complex transition from tropical sweetness to a crisp, resinous pine mid-palate. Malt flavor is unobtrusive, contributing a soft, grainy sweetness. Bitterness is moderate but smooth, lacking any harshness, leading into a soft, off-dry finish with a lingering citrus aftertaste.

Mouthfeel. Medium-full body with a remarkably soft and pillowy texture. Carbonation is moderate, contributing to a smooth, non-aggressive mouthfeel. There is a very light, well-integrated alcohol warmth, but no astringency or harshness from the heavy hopping.
