On the palate, the inclusion of Poperinge hops provides an earthy counterpoint to rich flavors of mocha, marzipan, and subtle licorice. The malt profile is toasted and complex, delivering a balanced interplay between sweetness and moderate bitterness. With its 6.1% ABV, it provides a gentle warmth and a medium body, finishing with a surprising, spiced aftertaste.
Appearance. Dark reddish-brown to deep mahogany. Cloudy/turbid with a moderate, creamy beige head and good lacing.
Aroma. Moderate intensity. Dominant sweet malt notes of caramel and chocolate, accented by mocha and toasted nuts. Subtle earthy hop aroma from Poperinge hops. Esters suggest ripe dark fruits.
Taste. Initial malt sweetness featuring chocolate and toffee, followed by complex notes of licorice and marzipan. Hop bitterness is medium-low, providing a clean balance to the malt. Finish is medium-dry with a lingering toasted malt and light spice character.
