Um pouco de história: No ritual suicida japonês conhecido por seppuku ou haraquiri, o kaishakunin era aquele que infligia o golpe final naquele que cometeu seppuku ou haraquiri. Este golpe final é feito cortando a cabeça com a ajuda de uma espada de samurai. O papel do kaishakunin era principalmente poupar a um sofrimento excruciante a pessoa que cometeu o seppuku mas também poupar os espectadores de assistirem à morte lenta e dolorosa que resulta de cortar e abrir a barriga com um tantō, wakizashi ou um simples punhal. O recurso a um kaishakunin normalmente era reservado aqueles que cometiam seppuku por honra. O kaishakunin tinha que ser um espadachim experiente para cortar a cabeça com um único golpe. KEREL Kaishaku, um verdadeiro assassino!!!
A VERBEECK – BACK BREWERY remonta ao final do séc. XIX quando se tornou uma das cervejeiras independentes mais queridas do norte da Bélgica. A KEREL, de todo uma marca tradicional, é “Untouched by Monks”. Em 1966, depois de décadas de produção, com o advento da cerveja industrial, a cervejeira fechou e não sobrou nenhuma das garrafas originais. Ou pelo menos assim se pensou. Na verdade, sobrou apenas uma garrafa que alguns anos mais tarde foi descoberta nos antigos armazéns da cervejeira. Essa garrafa foi entregue aos “cuidados” de especialistas belgas que conseguiram, quase que como por milagre, recuperar a levedura original. Een kaishakunin was degene die de genadeslag toebracht bij een Japanner die seppuku of harakiri pleegde.
Deze genadeslag werd uitgevoerd door het afhakken van het hoofd met behulp van een samoeraizwaard.
De rol van de kaishakunin was vooral om zowel de persoon die seppuku pleegde als de toeschouwers de pijnlijke langzame dood van het opensnijden van de buik te besparen. Het gebruik van een kaishakunin was normaal alleen voorbehouden aan hen die seppuku pleegden uit eergevoel. Zo kreeg bijvoorbeeld een krijgsheer die was verslagen in een oorlog en er daarom voor koos seppuku te plegen vaak een kaishakunin toegewezen, maar een samoerai die seppuku pleegde omdat hij een misdaad had begaan of zijn clan te schande gemaakt niet. De kaishakunin moest een ervaren zwaardvechter zijn om het hoofd precies ver genoeg af te kunnen hakken met een enkele slag.
Een fruitige en hoppige smaak is opvallend.
Dit in combinatie met een hoog alcoholpercentage maakt dit een erg speciaal bier.
