Trappistes Rochefort 8 9.2% ABV

Rochefort Brewery (Brasserie de Rochefort) is a Belgian brewery that produces four beers designated as Trappist beers. The brewery is associated with the Rochefort Abbey, which originated in the thirteenth century. The current brewery dates from 1899.

The earliest mention of a brewery at the monastery dates from 1595. The abbey and its brewery were closed in 1794. The abbey was re-established in 1887 and the brewery was re-established in 1899. Around fifteen monks currently live at Rochefort Abbey.

The water for the beer is drawn from a well inside the monastery walls. Rochefort uses Pilsener and Munich-type malts, and Hallertau and Golding hops.

Yellowish-brown in colour, with more fruits in the aroma and a slight amount of Demi-Sec.

Mówi się, że ta woda źródlana ma wyjątkowy skład, z łatwością przekształcona w ciemne piwa Rochefort w „katedrze warzelni” mnichów. Wystarczy dodać słód jęczmienny, skrobię pszenną i granulki chmielowe.

Chociaż podstawowa receptura tych trzech piw pozostaje taka sama, to co wyróżnia każde z nich to ilość dodanego cukru słodowego i kandyzowanego. Rochefort 8 jest uważany za „chłopaka” z tej trójki, ze swoim kapeluszem z zieloną butelką, który po raz pierwszy ujrzał światło dzienne w 1954 roku. Ten najmłodszy członek rodziny od razu został ciepło przyjęty, po jego zleceniu przez jednego szczególnego (i dość ważnego) klient. Rok później został oficjalnym dodatkiem do obecnego trio Rochefort i sprzedawany jako „speciale”. Niektórzy nadal nazywają go tą nazwą.

Rochefort 8 to piwo, którym można się delektować w wolnym czasie. Niezbyt gęsty, łatwo schodzi, cicho musując. Alkohol w finiszu nigdy nie pozwala zapomnieć, że jest to autentyczne piwo degustacyjne, którego nie można się spieszyć. Jest słodko-czekoladowy, przyjemny, ale na pewno nigdy nie jest nudny. To samo można powiedzieć o zawartości alkoholu – daje się poznać, ale nigdy nie przytłacza, pozostawiając dużo miejsca na całą bogatą subtelność, którą można znaleźć w kieliszku 8.
