This opulent Imperial Stout showcases a masterful interplay of extended barrel aging and lush adjuncts. Eighteen months in Journeyman estate rye sherry puncheons imparts a sophisticated vinous depth, layering notes of dark fruit and nutty oxidation over a foundation of bittersweet chocolate and toasted grain. Hand-scraped vanilla beans provide a creamy, aromatic silkiness that rounds out the intense roasted character. The high alcohol content is seamlessly integrated, offering a gentle warmth rather than a sharp burn. The result is a viscous, multi-dimensional dessert-like experience where the spicy rye influence and sweet sherry finish create a harmonious, lingering complexity.

Appearance. Jet black and opaque (SRM 40+). Pours with a dense, dark tan head of moderate retention. High viscosity is apparent in the glass, forming thick legs when swirled.

Aroma. High intensity with a rich blend of bittersweet chocolate, espresso, and black licorice. Distinctive vanilla bean notes provide a creamy, floral sweetness. Significant vinous character from the sherry puncheons contributes aromas of figs, raisins, and toasted walnuts, with a subtle spicy rye grain backdrop.

Taste. Initial impression is exceptionally rich with layers of dark cocoa and sweet vanilla. Malt flavors of molasses and toasted bread are supported by dark fruit esters of prune and black currant.
