Wandering Into The Frog is a powerful Double IPA that delivers a concentrated blast of Southern Hemisphere character. The heavy use of Nelson and Galaxy hops creates a vibrant profile of passion fruit and crushed white grapes, while Riwaka and Motueka contribute sharp layers of lime zest and mojito-like citrus. A supporting presence of Summit hops adds a subtle, dank complexity. This collaboration balances its 8.6% ABV with a clean, lean malt backbone, finishing with a firm, resinous bitterness that underscores its hop-forward intent. It offers a smooth, saturated experience where tropical intensity meets a crisp, refreshing finish.
Appearance. Pale gold to light orange-copper (7-9 SRM). Pours with a moderate, persistent white head that leaves dense lacing. Displays a slight to moderate haze common in heavily dry-hopped modern versions.
Aroma. Intense and multifaceted hop aroma. Dominant notes of tropical passion fruit and mango from Galaxy, accompanied by the distinct white wine and gooseberry character of Nelson. Riwaka and Motueka provide bright lime and grapefruit zest, while Summit adds a faint herbal, onion-like dankness. Malt is neutral and supportive, appearing as light cracker or dough.
Taste. Initial impression is an explosion of tropical fruit and citrus. Flavors of guava and lime are prominent, followed by a sophisticated white grape essence. Malt character is low and clean, allowing the high hop bitterness to lead without being harsh. The finish is medium-dry with a lingering resinous aftertaste. A light, smooth alcohol presence complements the hop saturation.
Mouthfeel. Medium body with a smooth, slightly creamy texture from the double dry-hopping. Carbonation is moderate. Noticeable but well-integrated alcohol warmth provides a gentle glow. No significant hop-derived astringency.
