This collaborative Imperial Stout presents an immense sensory profile, merging the depth of Henna and Monster Stout into a singular, decadent experience. The influence of Sagamore Double Oak Rye and Henry McKenna 11-year Bourbon barrels provides a sophisticated spirit-forward complexity, weaving aromas of charred oak and spicy rye through a saturated malt base of dark chocolate and rich toffee. On the palate, a thick, viscous texture carries layers of espresso, fudge, and a unique savory umami spice. The high alcohol content is masterfully integrated, offering a deep, velvety warmth that lingers alongside a bittersweet roasted finish.
Appearance. Jet black and completely opaque (40+ SRM). Pours with a small, dense, dark tan head that recedes to a thick collar, leaving significant oily legs and high viscosity visible on the glass.
Aroma. High intensity. Dominant aromas of bittersweet chocolate, espresso, and caramelized sugar. Strong barrel character provides notes of spicy rye, toasted oak, vanilla, and a distinct bourbon sweetness. Subtle dark fruit esters of black currant and raisin are present.
Taste. Rich and multifaceted. Initial flavors of dark chocolate and sticky toffee transition into deep roasted grains and earthy umami spice. Moderate bitterness from both roasted malts and hops balances the significant residual sweetness. The mid-palate reveals vanilla and charred wood from the bourbon barrels, finishing with a lingering, warming spirit character and a hint of black licorice.
Mouthfeel. Very full-bodied and chewy with a luscious, velvety texture. Low carbonation enhances the beer's considerable weight. A strong but smooth alcohol warmth is present, reflecting the high ABV without being harsh.
