The Bruery

This American Barleywine offers an intensely complex sensory journey, merging the robust sweetness of a traditional strong ale with the savory depth of beech wood-infused malt. Aromas of campfire smoke and toasted rye malt lead into a palate saturated with burnt caramel and spicy wood notes derived from extensive rye barrel aging. Despite its formidable strength, the beer maintains a core of resinous hop bitterness that balances the heavy residual sugars. Notes of dark fruit esters and vanilla emerge as it warms, finishing with a persistent, boozy warmth and a lingering essence of charred oak and sweet tobacco characteristic of this collaboration.

Appearance. Deep copper to mahogany (18-22 SRM) with ruby highlights. Low, creamy light tan head with poor retention and visible legs. Brilliant clarity.

Aroma. High intensity. Dominant smoky beechwood and campfire notes blend with spicy rye malt and grainy richness. Secondary aromas of burnt caramel, vanilla, and oak from the barrel. Low resinous hop aroma and moderate dark fruit esters like plum and raisin.

Taste. Initial impression is massive malty sweetness and savory smoke. Layers of spicy rye and toasted bread transition to barrel-driven flavors of burnt caramel and boozy oak. Moderate-high bitterness is present but restrained by the high gravity. Finish is long, warming, and slightly sweet with a lingering phenolic smoke and clean alcohol presence.

Mouthfeel. Full-bodied, chewy, and viscous with a velvety, luscious texture. Low carbonation. Significant alcohol warmth is present and noticeable but smooth, lacking any harsh solvent character.
