Survival Kit is an intensely aromatic Double IPA that showcases an intricate layering of modern hop varieties. The sensory profile is led by a punchy combination of tropical pineapple and ripe red fruits, balanced by a profound, resinous dankness. The elaborate hopping schedule—employing Saaz in the mash and a triple dry-hop regimen of Idaho 7, Strata, Millennium, and HBC 682—results in a complex tapestry of passion fruit, herbal spice, and citrus. While the 9.2% ABV provides a smooth warmth, the malt profile remains clean and supportive, ensuring the hop-driven esters and resins remain the focal point through a dry, lingering finish.
Appearance. Deep gold to light orange-copper (8–12 SRM). Features a moderate-sized, persistent, off-white head with excellent lacing. Clarity is good, though a slight hop-derived haze is acceptable given the intensive dry-hopping.
Aroma. High intensity hop aroma featuring prominent notes of pineapple, berry-like red fruits, and a distinctively dank, resinous character. Subtle spicy and floral undertones from Saaz are present. Malt is low and neutral-grainy. Fermentation is clean with a soft, well-integrated alcohol presence.
Taste. Strong and complex hop flavors dominated by tropical fruit, citrus, and a pungent herbal earthiness. High bitterness that is firm but smooth and never harsh. The malt character is low and unobtrusive, providing a clean, soft background. Finishes very dry and clean with a long, resinous, hoppy aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium body with a smooth, slightly creamy texture. Medium carbonation. Notable but restrained, smooth alcohol warmth. Lacks any harsh hop-derived astringency despite the significant hop load.
