This massive, barrel-aged Imperial Stout delivers a decadent sensory experience, pairing intense roasted malts with luscious dessert-like layers. Aromas of rich dark chocolate and bright Valencia orange meld seamlessly with caramelized oak, vanilla, and deep bourbon notes from its time in Heaven Hill barrels. On the palate, a velvety, full-bodied sweetness is balanced by a robust roasted malt bitterness and a hint of citrus acidity. The high alcohol content provides a deep, smooth warmth that lingers alongside decadent cocoa and spirit-forward complexity, creating an incredibly harmonious, slow-sipping masterpiece.
Appearance. Jet black and completely opaque (SRM 40+). Pours with a thick, dense, dark brown head with moderate retention, leaving a beautiful collar and leg-like sheets on the glass due to high viscosity and alcohol content.
Aroma. High intensity. Prominent dark chocolate, roasted cocoa, and espresso notes lead, closely followed by the vibrant, sweet citrus perfume of Valencia orange. Undertones of vanilla, toasted oak, and rich bourbon from the Heaven Hill barrels intertwine with deep dark fruit esters of plums and raisins. Alcohol is noticeable but smooth, offering a spirit-like warmth without being sharp.
Taste. Intensely rich initial impression of sweet dark chocolate, charred oak, and warm bourbon. The sweet, zesty tang of Valencia orange emerges in the mid-palate, cutting through the dense malt sweetness. Moderate-high roasted bitterness and oak tannins balance the residual sugars. The finish is long, complex, and warming, showcasing a harmonious blend of bittersweet cocoa, citrus peel, and vanilla-laced bourbon.
Mouthfeel. Extremely full-bodied, chewy, and velvety with a luxurious, luscious texture. Carbonation is low to moderate. A significant, deep alcohol warmth is highly noticeable but velvety and well-integrated, lacking any harsh or solventy edge.
