This vibrant Brett Beer presents an exquisite marriage of tropical fruit and wild fermentation artistry. Side Project’s house culture, featuring Brettanomyces claussenii and Brettanomyces anomalus, creates a bone-dry, effervescent canvas for lush layers of sun-ripened Mango and bright Tangerine zest. The addition of Nelson hops elevates the aromatic profile with sophisticated notes of crushed white grapes and gooseberry, seamlessly blending with the yeast-driven pineapple esters. While the fruit presence is bold and juicy, the finish is remarkably crisp and lean, showcasing a delicate earthy funk and a lingering vinous quality that reflects its masterful mixed-culture origin.
Appearance. Pale straw to soft golden-orange (5-7 SRM) with a persistent, mousse-like white head and fine-beaded lacing. Displays a characteristic slight haze from the fruit refermentation and dry-hopping.
Aroma. High aromatic intensity. Leading with fresh mango pulp and citrus oils from tangerine, followed by the distinctive Nelson hop profile of sauvignon blanc grapes and passionfruit. Fermentation notes contribute pineapple, floral honey, and a light rustic funk reminiscent of sun-dried hay.
Taste. Initial impression is remarkably dry and fruity. Dominant flavors of tropical mango and zesty tangerine are supported by a moderate hop bitterness and vinous white wine characteristics. Malt is a background player, offering light cracker-like support. The Brettanomyces provides a complex, dry finish with subtle earthy and stone fruit undertones. No harsh acidity is present, maintaining a clean, wild character.
Mouthfeel. Medium-light body with high, prickly carbonation that provides a champagne-like effervescence. Very low alcohol warmth and a crisp, refreshing finish. No significant astringency despite the heavy fruit and hop additions.
