This exquisite collaboration between Salikatt and Marlobobo presents a decadent English Barley Wine defined by its unique double-barrel treatment. Initial aging in bourbon barrels provides a foundation of vanilla and toasted oak, while secondary maturation in ex-mead barrels infuses luscious floral honey and beeswax complexities. The addition of the Phoenix 2021 blend introduces deep layers of concentrated dark fruit and a hint of vinous oxidation. Expect a symphony of rich caramel, sticky toffee, and dried figs, harmonized by the distinctive sweetness of Bourbon BA Bumfuzzle mead. It is a viscous, warming sipper designed for contemplative enjoyment at cellar temperatures.
Appearance. Deep mahogany with ruby highlights (18–22 SRM). Pours with a thin, tan-colored collar that dissipates quickly, leaving moderate lacing. Shows significant viscosity and visible legs on the glass.
Aroma. High intensity and profoundly complex. Deep toffee and caramelized malt aromas are layered with rich honey, floral mead, and vanilla from the bourbon barrels. Strong dark fruit notes of raisin and date are present, complemented by a soft, rounded alcohol warmth and a hint of earthy oak.
Taste. A multi-layered explosion of malt sweetness featuring bread crust, burnt sugar, and toffee. The mead barrel influence adds a distinct honeyed richness that balances the moderate hop bitterness. Flavors of dark cherry, fig, and plum emerge in the mid-palate, transitioning into a long, warming finish with lingering notes of bourbon-soaked oak and vinous character.
Mouthfeel. Full-bodied and exceptionally chewy with a velvety, luscious texture. Carbonation is low, enhancing the beer's weight. A significant but smooth alcohol warmth spreads across the palate without being harsh or fusel.
