Rocket Dyne is an explosive Double IPA that captures the intense tropical essence of modern New England brewing. Utilizing a massive dry-hop charge of Citra, Mosaic, and Azacca, the sensory profile is dominated by layers of overripe mango, juicy pineapple, and bright citrus zest. The incorporation of oats creates a silky, opaque foundation that balances the high alcohol strength and carries the saturated hop oils. Expect a vibrant, fruit-forward experience where the hops provide a resinous depth without harshness. This beer finishes with a soft, lingering fruitiness and a clean, integrated warmth that underscores its potency while maintaining remarkable drinkability.
Appearance. Pale gold to light orange (6-8 SRM). Featuring a thick, persistent, white head with dense lacing and excellent retention. The clarity is opaque with a heavy, uniform haze.
Aroma. High intensity hop-forward bouquet. Dominant notes of tropical fruit, specifically mango and papaya, and citrus zest from the Citra and Mosaic, complemented by stone fruit and light spice from Azacca. Low, neutral grainy malt sweetness with a hint of creamy oats in the background. Clean fermentation profile with a soft, well-integrated alcohol presence.
Taste. Initial impression is a burst of complex hop flavors including tropical fruit salad, resinous pine, and crushed citrus. The malt flavor is low but supportive, offering a soft, bready character from the oats. Bitterness is firm but smooth, avoiding harshness. The balance is heavily shifted toward hops, leading to a medium-dry, lingering fruity finish with a touch of pleasant alcohol warmth.
Mouthfeel. Medium-full body with a remarkably smooth, creamy, and velvety texture attributed to the heavy use of oats. Carbonation is moderate. A noticeable but refined alcohol warmth is present without being solventy or hot. No hop-derived astringency.
